I have a model that has 7 solid bodies that make a hinge assembly. I tried to make an exploded view using 'Assemblies > Exploded Views > New Explosion' and then went to 'Edit' to create the exploded view, but I am unable to make the view. I believe my problem is that the seven solid bodies are in one file, so it isn't a proper assembly file. Short of creating a duplicate model, saving on another layer and then translating the bodies, how would I create an exploded view that I can then add to a drawing?

With 7 solid bodies, you can convert them to components fairly quickly (Assemblies -> Components -> Create new component, choose a solid body); repeat for the 7 solid bodies. When you are done, the starting file will now be the assembly and your 7 bodies will each be in their own file, added as components to the assembly.

Also, if you use the master model method, don't forget that the explosion needs to be created in the drawing file, not the model file.

As cowski has alluded to, but didn't actually say it outright, you can ONLY use the 'Exploded View' creation tools with an Assembly of Components.
