Hi All,

I am trying to place a material property in which th modulus is defined as E = constant * T1

where T1 is the temperature in centigrade at a depth of 25mm from the surface. I am not able to find a way to implement it. I will appreciate if I can get some tips/advice on this.

Why don't you just perform a multifield analysis w/ temperature dependent material properties?

Hi Stringmaker,

The thing with my problem is, I want Material property at every location to be calculated using the temperature at one particular node. Generally when we use MP, MPTEMP, MPDATA it calculates the material property with respect to temperature at this point.

Hello,

in this case try using constraint equations to couple the temperature between the master node and the slave nodes. CERIG should be a convenient way to do that.

You still have to define the temperature dependent material for all elements.

Hope it helps!

Alex

Hi Alex,

But in next step I make use of temperature distribution to calculate stresses. If I couple the temperature dof then my stress calculation will be effected.

That's what I was afraid of... In this case, you should provide more informations. The problem seems a little bit "unphysical" to me...

In the worst case, you have to make "nonstandard use of Ansys". That means, after each step go to /post1, read the temp at the master node, then go to /prep7 and change the material properties, then restart the solution.

This method works very fine with CE's, should also work with material properties.

Hi Alex,

I am solving for a bridge deck model and applying a asphalt layer on the top.

In a reference the modulus of elasticity for asphalt is given as :

E = Exp(9.37 - 0.0032 x T) Mpa
where T is the temperature of asphalt 25mm below the surface. Its a weird way of defining the E value, but thats how they have defined it.
