Mathcad slow scroll speed 2

I just installed Mathcad (30 day trial) and the scroll speed is just ridiculous. It's so slow it's no point using it.

I have a feeling this is a common issue, yet it's hard to find info about it.

How do I get it fixed?

Do you feel it is too slow when holding "control" and scrolling?

He he... No!

Thanks for the tip but I'm not sure I regard that as a true solution.

I do recall being in this situation about a year ago when in brief contact with Mathcad. After some intense googling I did find something about some setting somewhere in the Windows control panel or something like that. Mouse driver I guess. I tried to find it again but today but with no success.

You can change the mouse wheel scroll speed in the control panel (for windows) but that will affect all of your programs.

Yes I know but that's not what I'm looking for. How is your Mathcad scrollspeed? Same as Excel approximately?

Once the document has calculated, my scroll speed is fast. So, I usually go Ctrl-End and then go to another program for a while, come back and scroll.

I appreciate that you are trying to help me but calculations have nothing to do with it, it's the same with an empty sheet.

I did a quick comparison with Excel.

One notch on the mouse wheel will move the page three rows in Excel, which equals 51 pixels.

One notch on the mouse wheel in Mathcad will move the page less then the height of a letter (Arial, size 10), maybe 10 pixels.

Do you mean that it takes small steps (only 10 pixels), or that those steps happen very slowly (so that it takes a long time to see the 10 pixel shift)?

The speed can be affected by the various graphics effects. mathcad can be affected by the poor implementations of OpenGL, hence the oft repeated suggestion to ensure that graphics drivers are fully up to date (last stable version ;-), or to adjust the graphics acceleration (which often only works for a limited set of 'games' actions).

I mean small steps, my bad.

UcfSE, today I tried to change the scroll speed/step size in the Control panel. Guess what happend? I get superfast scrollspeed in all programs EXCEPT Mathcad! In Mathcad the stepsize doesn't change even a single pixel! What's the word I'm looking for here? Frustra... nah that can't be it.

I think it's a mouse driver thing. I will try to install Logitech's mousedriver instead if possible.

Interesting.

I would just hold the control button when scrolling and go have a beer.

I have the same problem. I do a lot of symbolic math where the generated equations stretch across multiple pages. Even if the Mathcad gets the right solution the solution isn't useable but the cutting and pasting to sooo slooow toooo. I am actively investigating other CAS. Maxima has a few advantages when doing symbolic processing and generating html files. The documentation isn't as good though. The good thing is that you can use your own editor.

On the Collab the thread there finally came up with the facts that:
1. the scroll is fixed at one region grid per 'step' [the region grid is about half a line].
2. that pressing Ctrl while scrolling will change the step size to about a third of a page. [This will give 'fast' scrolling]
3. Mathcad basically ignores most of the windows settings, which is annoying ;-)

Good that you kicked this thread alive again philipoakley!
I decided to do some more research on this and installed Microsoft Intellipoint. It's meant to be for microsofte mice but it worked fine with my basic generic Logitech mouse. There is a function where you can adjust step size as a function of how fast you spin the mouse wheel. Guess what? Mathcad actually responded to that! I'm not even gonna mention the word "workaround" cause I still think this whole issue sucks, but with the right setting and the right finger movement it was possible to create an illusion of a faster scroll/longer stepping scroll.

Appearently Mathcad doesn't ignore ALL the windows settings. :) I'm not at that particular computer right now which makes me a bit uncertain of my findings (it was more than a week ago) but what the heck, I'm posting this anyway! Prove me wrong!:)

Hallelujah! The rescue for worn out scroll fingers is here!
It's called Freewheel and can be found here:
Mathcad (only tried on MC 14) actually responds perfectly to the settings in Freewheel but if you get too greedy with the number-of-rows-per-scroll (+10 rows per scroll or so) you can still outrun Mathcad. With a normal settting it works like a charm! Life is good!

I found it when I was searching for a fix for my non working VB6 IDE scroll. Turns out that Intellipoint of later versions messes with the VB6 scroll.

Some jerk on some forum came up with the brilliant idea that Intellipoint would make Mathcad scroll work better. I wonder who that was...

It's nice that I got a star but how does it work?
If I get a star in a thread I get it for everything I write including ignorant posts like this one?

Is there a way to tell what I got the star for other than monitoring the thread continously and make a note when it happends?

The stars are not specific to any individual posting.

It's the same star, regardless of which posting you read.

No, long-term users pretty ignore the genesis of stars, since you'll often get them for rather mundane answers, yet your Nobel-qualifiable postings might get nothing.

Ok.
As for myself I'm not old enough to ignore stars:). And the few ones I've recieved have been relevant.

Hello Jacc!
Hey I have the same Problem. Now I'm trying to solve it in the same way like you... But I'm not able to do it! Because MathCad doesn't respond to Freewheel?!

What I have to do? It would be very nice, if you explain it a little bit to me.
