Sometimes I have a problem with Mathcad 2001 where the results will not change when I change numbers on the sheet. What causes this? I have gotten out of this jam by copying the program onto a new sheet.

I assume you have tried F9 and ctrl-F9 to force the calculation?

Side note: I used to have problems with Mcad crashing when automatic calculations were on - especially when I was writing programs. So I've turned off automatic calc and just use F9 to force calculations when I need them updated.

As I recall 2001 was an "even numbered version" and those have been very buggy (2001 was on my machine less than a month, version 12 didn't quite last that long). You really need to update to an odd-numbered version (11 was very stable, 13 seems like it is going to be ok).

Trying to fix something broken in 2001 is really an exercise in futility. You can't even upgrade from 2001 to v13.

I wish I could help. I have the same problem with recalculating values in Mathcad 13. Even worse, if I change a NAME of a variable, Mathcad sometimes will retain old variable with last value. How do I handle that? Once in a while during a session I simply reload the file.
Reloaded file will have all values recalculated, and all un-defined variables will go red.
Quite awkward, but Mathsoft refuses to recognize this old problem.
ZDAC04 recommended odd-numbered version. Can't agree. Mathcad 11 was fine. Mathcad 13 is the worst I had.

I've only had 13 installed for a few weeks, but no problems so far and it will do the stuff that 12 refused to do. By the end of the first day with 2001i and 12 I knew that something was definately wrong and neither lasted a month on my machine. I hope that I stay happy with 13, but I still have 11 installed as a backup.

Maybe I should modify my statement to "version 11 worked good for me, even numbered versions 12 and below all had major problems". I don't really know enough about 13 yet to recommend it.

Were you happy with v12? I've never heard anyone that liked that version.

I have the same problem Mikevain is having. Closing and reopening the file is a solution to this one and another problem:

Go to menu

Insert->Math Region

type:

x1:=3+5 ,

then try to insert this math region on the same line:

x1=

Seven times out of ten, the 2nd x1 is treated as a new variable. The solution: close it and open it again.
