Hey guys, in USA or Canada what is maximum available length for the steel shapes noted below?

HSS shapes, W shapes, L shapes, C shapes, Rods and Plates.

Thanks in advance!!

I think stock lengths are 40ft possibly 60ft (been 30 years since I dealt with that).
though I think you can longer but will.be expensive as it will either need to be special order or welded in a shop.

also keep in mind shipping. anything over length or height will require a special permit and an escort.

I’ve always understood that 40 ft was the basic maximum mill order for everything except WF beams which are 60 ft.

I know that we get stock lengths of HSS that are 20', 24', 40', and 48'. As noted you can get lengths longer than this but you will have to wait for a mill run of whatever shape(s) you are wanting. Depending on how common the shape is the mill runs may be anywhere from a week to 12 or more weeks apart.
If shipping by road anything over 53' will require a permit (assuming you are in the US). 60 ft lengths are definitely done as mill runs.

Plates will depend on how thick it is, 1/2" or less is typically coil stock so you can order whatever length you need from the supplier, but it will need to be small enough to be shipped, 60ft is typically a max length. If it is thicker than 1/2 inch it is typically discrete plate and would be stocked in 20ft and possibly 40ft lengths. Again you could get mill runs to a specific length.

For discrete plate from inventory, normally 40' maximum. For mill orders, longer is available, but handling becomes a problem.
For WF, I think we can normally get 60' okay.
I think some of the pipe is routinely available in longer lengths as well.
On some of the smaller stuff, handling may be an issue as well if you go too long.

For Nucor-Yamato Steel W, HP, Channel and Angle sections are available up to 65' lengths. S sections up to 60'.

For heavier sections up to 120' lengths are possible.

Plate is typically 96" x 240" and custom plate sizes of 120" x 480" are available.
