Does anyone know of some ref. materials where i can find the maximum torque spec. for screws threading into tapped aluminum plate?

I realize I could do this by experiment but I really don't have the time.

There are so many variables involved in threaded fasteners that one cannot provide an answer without knowing the joint details. You can learn a lot by searching this site - look at FAQ's and previous threads.

In machinery's handbook under working strength of bolts there are formulas covering this. Because Al is softer than your bolt you see "stripping of internal threads" in same section. If your material is too thin you could go to something like rivnuts.
