Hi folks,

How can I get and use the coordinates and rotation for an axis system to axis system transformation? Is it even possible in Catia?

When I try to measure axis system to axis system all a get back is x=0, y=0, z=0 with 0 angle when the axis systems are clearly well over 1m apart and at an obscure angle.

Many thanks,

Dave

For an axis to axis transformation why not use "Snap"
Are you trying to do this with a program or manually?

Hi Kevin,

I could use Snap but that doesn't really achieve what I'm targeting. In this instance what I'm trying to do is generate parametric axis systems offset from the origin axis system to which I can assemble sub-products to host constantly evolving client-side package models submitted as IGES files from their visualization software (no datum geometry). All of this is being done manually.

After playing with this a bit more today without success I'm coming to the conclusion that this just isn't possible is Catia - especially quantifying the combined rotation about 3 axes - and I'm going the have to rely on Catia's positioning commands and "Fix" constraints to do what I need to do.

Dave,

Not sure if would work for you but we used to use what we called an absolute or origin part. This part would contain axis systems for the RH and LH parts. Being everything for the axis construction was in one part it was easy to parameters to drive there location and rotation.
You could then Fix a sub-product to each axis, drop client models into the appropriate sub-product and modify the absolute part to get proper spread and rotation??
