During the meshing the nodes of two adjacent surfaces ended up not being connected, although they match. I can't merge the nodes using the mesh edit tool because it only allow a merge for a bottom up mesh. Is there any other way to merge the nodes? I'm new to abaqus and more a Hypermesh user were this is a more or less trivial task.

Apparently, the surfaces were disconnected, it would be better to correct the geometry. But if you really want to just merge the nodes, you could create an orphan mesh (remove connection with geometry) and then go to Edit Mesh --> Node --> Merge.

The surfaces are fine, I've tried to connect them but no gaps were identified. Also, if I make it orphan, then the constraints a property assigned to geometry won't apply to the mesh right?

There might be some very small gaps (or even no gaps but just disconnected surfaces). Otherwise, the mesh should be continuous. Did you try using the Geometry Edit tools ?

Yes, you will have to reassign everything to the orphan mesh.
