If you bought a metric socket wrench set in Europe or Asia (China for example) would the drive size be any different than the normal SAE 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 that we see in the states. Are the SAE drive sizes international? Are there any metric sized drives?

Same in Australia. The square drive size is still in inches, but the socket sizes can be either mm or inch.

Mixing metric and imperial dimensions on one part is still very widespread. For instance wheel and tyre dimensions !!
