If you are unsure and want the safe route, get an on-line UPS with enough battery power for an hour or so. The hour gives someone time to react to a failure of the generator to start.

Some security cameras could potentially have the equivalent of their own UPS'. The Blink security cameras can run off their lithium battery if the USB power is disrupted. This would potentially alleviate any loss of stored events, but you'd still need to UPS the network and alert system. Although, if the cameras are monitored by the latest LG laptops, they claim 19 hr battery life.
