Hi

I need to select a VFD driven motor for Mexico where the supply voltage is 480VAC, 60Hz for an equipment.
The standard motors available in market (ABB,IE3 / Equivalent) are either 460VAC, 60Hz or 500VAC, 60Hz.
Which one is recommended - 460VAC or 500vac Motor and why ?

Regards
Bala

460V is the motor voltage for use on 480V systems. Utilization voltage vs. service voltage. Catches lots of people the first time they see it. 200V motors on 208V, 230V motors on 240V, 460V motors on 480V and 575V motors on 600V systems.

What David said.
460 Volt rated motors are always used on 480 Volt systems.
The North American Codes allow 5% voltage drop overall in feeders and branch circuits.
480 Volts minus 5% = 456 Volts, rounded up to 460 Volts.

But as shown in this thread:
ABB may end up giving you an opus of a nameplate that lists every possible voltage and frequency combination that it works on anyway...
