Motor Selection / Requirement

I am an EE with Power Supply Design and 3 phase AC Induction Design experience. I have a new project that requires rotating a 4 pound load at speeds of 10 – 2000 RPMs via direct drive (no gears). There will be a slow start ramp of a TBD rate. I also need to control the direction. I think a PM-DC motor would be the best choice based on price and performance.

Can anyone tell me some manufacturers that could help me select a motor based on my requirements?

Are there any application notes to use as a guide for selecting a motor?
