Motor supplier for a top head drill rig?

I'm familiar with mobile applications but lack experience in the area of selecting a supplier for high torque motors typically used in this application.

Requirements: 2k lb/ft output TQ @ 5000-5500 psi, 25-50 RPM. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey...

Sauer-Danfoss.com would be a good place to start looking for motors of that size, although the pressure seems a little high. Is the pressure working, intermitent or peak..?

The torque to pressure ratio is low as is the speed requirement so it seems like a small motor.

I will reluctantly suggest Parker Hannifin as well...

Sourcing a motor should be pretty simple if you know the mounting flange details.

Try Bosch Rexroth as well, I am fairly sure they do this type of motor

You can use a radial piston motor or an axial piston motor connected to a planetary gear box. If the 25 rpm requires high starting torque the axial piston motor connected to a planetary reducer will be the most efficient.

The best type of motor for this application is a radial piston motor , Bosch Rexroth make a motor called an MCR..... The company I work for use them in such an application .They have large taper roller bearings which are suited to radial and axial loadings you will experience in this application. Another advantage is that offer twin speed ( this is achieved by feeding the X port with 15-25bar signal)so you can double the speed and half the torque if necessary.

we use two dual stator Rineer motors over an 18:1 gearbox. Available torques are up to 50k ft/lbs with drill speeds up to 160 rpm. That's for deep holes, but you get the idea.

All- I've been away for awhile. Thanks for the input. The info I'm lacking is specific to the drill rig application. Although Bosch, Sauer, etc are well known suppliers, the Rineer motor is the only one I've actually heard of used for drill rigs. I'll do some more searching, IE fpweb, Bud. If anyone knows of a website that deals with hyd components designed for the drilling app, please advise.

yes, we also use the sauer-danfoss pumps. Stack six up on the end of a 1250 horse Cat, for close to 500 gpm @ 3500psi. Couple of Bosch valves, but most valving is custom machined for the higher flow rates.

I personally prefer the fixed displacement vane motor closed loop with the variable piston pumps. You can get the sauer with an internal loop charge pump, but we add an additional vane pump to the stack for loop charging. Provides higher charge flows, which really means higher diverge flows for cooling.
