HI All,
I have some question regarding Narrow Gap Welding,
my question applicable for AWS D1.1, I need to improve Joint design from Double V Groove Weld(1/3&2/3) to Narrow Gap Welding to reduce consumable consumtion and make a faster welding
Welding Machine I used is SAW,
So Based on this question above would you like to advice some Guidance(like Travel Speed, Ampere, Volt, Angle, etc) ?Where I can find it at Code since AWS D1.1 Figure 3.3 & 3.4 not mention about it?

Thanks n Regards

Narrow Gap Welding is not prequalified since it does not utilize a prequalified joint detail.

Lincoln Electric should provide you with all the details.

Hi GTAW,
Thankyou for answer my quetion,
This is what I found from Lincoln,
So based on your statement above your mean :
1. Since this is not an prequalified Joint so this is not a standard of AWS D1.1 so I can not use narrow gap welding for welding all structural Joint ? OR
2. I can use Narrow Gap Welding if I qualified it based on Clause 4 aws d1.1 but for my WPS-PQR only qualified for Narrow Gap Welding and
I can not use it for another Joint since aws make a limitation in table 4.5 aws d1.1?

Please avice , sorry about my english...

Thanks n Regards

It sounds like you understand perfectly. You can use the Narrow Gap Welding process if you demonstrate it will produce the required results. Qualify the WPS in accordance with Clause 4 Parts A and B. If notch toughness is a requirement, you must also comply with Part D.

Best regards - Al
