NDT testing for 1" diameter smooth bent bar

Could anyone make a suggestion on what kind of NDT testing can be performed on 1" diameter smooth bent bar. The purpose is to detect any stress crack at the bent due to the tight bent radius. These bars have been installed to the concrete as the ladder rungs. Thanks.

depends on what length of crack you want to detect.

maybe even Xray

Well, it is OK to NDE the bent bar, but I question the "tight bend radius" as the likely point of cracking: The highest tensile stress is on the outside of the bend, not the inside. The inside (introdent) will compress and squeeze so the bar's radius deforms (gets bigger).

Now, a hollow bar will deform in as it bends, and tend to compress (crumple) the OD and kink the ID. But a smooth bar (for rebar ??) will not likely show problems on the inside of the bend.
 
It seems unlikely that a 1" bar, no matter what or how the deformation, will not perform satisfactorily as a ladder rung.

Yes, I know. That's a double negative.
 
Quickest and easiest is liquid penetrant inspection as both rb1957 and dik noted. It is not expensive, results are relatively immediate and it will detect surface cracks reasonably well.

Magnetic particle inspection would be the second choice. More expensive, more equipment, more operator training....but fast results!

Eddy current would be next, but has the same issues as MPI.
