Need a help with transmitter and receiver circuit

I need a help with following circuit.

I want to know how it operates and how we can set up the variables and wake up pattern with the GUI.

I want to know that what can be the highest distance between transmitter and receiver?

I am a software developer and I am totally newbie, in circuit area.

It would be very great if one of you can help me out this!
