All,

When I did a search on this question, all the posts seemed rather old so I am asking again.

We are looking to replace our current IBM workstations with new ones. We are limited to IBM by our company. We do large assemblies and a lot of surface modeling.

We are running Team Center 9 and NX 9.

Any suggestions would be great. IBM specific would be great but not necessary.

Thanks!
John

Local SSD for fast bootup would be a nice option.

Minimum of four processors. If you're going to be doing a lot of rendering or FEA work, then a minimum of eight processors. In this day and age, local SSD's are no longer considered a nice-to-have option. I would make it mandatory (once you go SSD, you'll never go back). And don't forget your display, in addition to a good Nvidia card, as Ben has already mentioned, go with dual-monitors, 24 inch minimum. And 'Spaceballs' for everyone. You don't need a big SpacePilot Pro, just the basic SpaceNavigator will do.

Thanks for all the responses!

Ben/John, any specific suggestions on the Nvidia cards? I think the graphics cards are the biggest issue with our current setups and I don't want to end up with the same issue. Our current machines are already Xeon W3550 (8 core) processers and 8 gig ram. We have the 24" dual screens as well. My graphics card is a Quadro FX 1800 w/750MB ram (I think). Our graphics cards vary...

When we migrated to NX9 our graphics performance really diminished!

Everyone has a spaceball of one form or another! Wouldn't have it any other way!

Thanks,
John

For the SSD they have them tied into the PCI express slots now. Do not send your SSD through the slower Sata Cable interface.
