Hi,
We purchased a new jib with air hoist and now my boss wants it portable. How do I find out what size and weight base I need? The jib is 10 ft tall and has a 10 ft beam. We will only be lifting a max of 80lbs.
There are portable jib cranes. I think they're normally called davit cranes. Some come with a socket that can surface mounted or embedded. The davit can then be moved around and installed in the socket.
You might want to return what you have and buy a small davit crane.
That is poor advice, jldriggers. Your base would only resist 450 ft-lbs of overturning, while the OP has 800 ft-lbs wihout even considering the beam weight, hoist, impact, etc. As Mike says, he needs to contact the manufacturer for advice. Otherwise, when the thing turns over, he is on his own.
