I was wondering if you could help me. I am relatively new to nx and have read through a load of threads to try and get advice. I am trying to produce a part and create a range of stage operation drawings however I am having issues when extracting the body. I have produced the part fully and I am now trying to create extractions but when I do, it creates them all based on the first extrusion. I think it is something to do with the dependencies. I want to put the bodies into layers so that each layer shows each step of manufacture and then I can go onto produce drawings for each of these.

I know this may not be clear but hope you can help. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi ENGLambert,
Please check the TIMESTAMP option while creating the extraction. You can keep it ON for your staged data. Also could you please post an image of the same (Part Navigator). However (i may be wrong also) depending on the sort of product you are working upon...you might have considered wave linking to have different staged part versions of the same. Depending on the Layers for segregating multiple solids may be a tricky issue afterall.
Thanks and Best Regards

Under extract (or any associative copy feature) make sure you have 'Fix at current Timestamp' selected inorder to extract the body at that point in time

I have been using the 'fix at timestamp' function however it isnt making a difference. It is confusing me a little. I had each stage in seperate feature group and when trying to change the layer, it changed all the operations excpet for sketches.

When I come to extract the body the second time, I get the error message:

An extraction of the highlighted object already exists in this part, due to an earlier operation. Do you really want to create another?

Are you rolling back to that point and creating the extraced body or creating them at the end? Not sure what release you are on but I think from NX7.5 when right clicking on a feature in the tree you can 'Extract a body here', which should save you from having to rollback, extract and roll forward.

This is more of a warning rather than an error message. It helps prevent the user from unintentionally creating copies of features, making a mess of the feature tree, and confusing others that work on the part. In your case, the extracted bodies are for documentation purposes only, so yes: you DO want to create another.

Hi,
I would still prefer to have staged data in different parts using wave links. You might have noticed the same behavior in some other modules also.(progressive die wizard for ex)
This way you will have a better control over the staged part updates (what if you want to share a staged data with some other user? I guess you won't like to hand him over the entire part)

I managed to solve my issue, I re-designed the part from scratch - putting in the layers as I went along and has allowed me to solve the problem.

Thanks for the help
