[NX 7.5] Formula value from a constraint dimension.

Hello guys!

My ideia is to do a "flexible" spring using an equation. For this I need to get a value from an assembly constraint as argment.

The equation is pitch=(distance/turns)

The distance value is the distance constraint from another part in the assembly. But I don't know how to get (or put) this value as an argument in the expression.

Is it possible to do? How can I do that?

If you press CTRL+E (or tools > expressions) in the assembly, you'll find your 'P' number for the constraint expression.

So in the piece part expressions, you could reference this expression from the assembly (use the interpart expressions button).



But another (maybe better) way would be to create a deformable part.

So in the piece part, create a "length" expression which you can use in your pitch equation.

Then use Tools > Define deformable part to set up the definition.

Then in the parent assembly, you can right click on the spring component and deform it.

The interpart expression button was new for me, but it was exatly what I wanted for the moment.

And now I need to learn more on how to create a deformable part. I think Google can help me.

Looks good Erick,

In our assemblies parts are used in many different assemblies, and things change all the time.
Which is why I'd try to avoid "interpart links".

But if your spring is only ever used in this one assembly, then the method you've used will be fine.

Deformable parts is interesting for a look as well.
