NX 7.5 Newbie here...with what I hope is an easy question.

I'd like to make an exact copy of associated SIM and FEM files.

I have ABC_s.sim associated with ABC_f.fem and want to get an XYZ_s.sim associated with XYZ_f.fem (and maintain all of the groups defined in the FEM and all of the constraints and loads in the SIM).

What is the best process for doing this?

You may ignore this thread, I have been successful (I don't see an option for deleting this thread).

You can 'Red Flag' it yourself (see the item starting off 'Inappropriate post?' at the middle of the page below your posting) if you wish to have the thread removed and simply explain why and the 'IT gremlins' will take care of it for you.

Flagging the post for deletion is one option...

But it might be better if you share the answer to your question so in the future others with the same question can search the forum and find it.

The answer below came from Marilyn Tomlin, CAE Center of Excellence, SIEMENS PLM Software:

[I checked my notes and the process below was the first thing that I had tried (made the most sense), but for some reason I ended up with a FEM file without an associated SIM file. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but it worked today.]

Marilyn's response:

You can save the files by selecting the highest file and doing as SAVE AS, it will then prompt you for the associated files.

If you load the Ideal Part, FEM, and SIM, make the Ideal part the display or active part. Then do a SAVE AS. NX will prompt you for 3 file names: New_I.part, New_Fem1.fem, and New_Sim1.fem.

If you only want a new FEM and SIM, then make the FEM the display or active part. Then do the SAVE AS. NX will prompt for 2 new file names: FEM & SIM.

To make sure you are naming the correct files, watch the file extensions.

Also, in the information window, you will see the list of which file is getting saved as which file. This really helps.
