Hey all, I was trying to take my first steps in the NX CAM direction this evening.
I figured out how to define a workpiece, insert operations and simulate the machine.
What I cant figure out is this error:
"A clearance geometry transfer method is requested but no clearance geometry is specified."
1) I did not see a request like this anywhere
2) Can someone please tell me what does the machine want? And where to find it..
Thanks! :)

Hi Karlis,

Open your operation...
open the non-cutting moves dialog box,
select the Transfer/Rapid tab,
Clearance option, needs to be set to something other than "none"
hit the down arrow and select your choice as needed.

Regards,
Mario.

Thanks Mario,
It worked out. :)
What isn't working now is - it says "an IPW could not be created" when I attempt to simulate the machining process.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

You can also set clearance planes in the geometry view of the operation navigator. So if you have a setup such as MCS->Workpiece and your operations are under Workpiece, all your operations will inherit from up above; such as a clearance plane that is specified with the MCS.

Speaking of Workpiece, you need to select your part using the Workpiece as well as specifying the blank geometry. You will need those things defined to use operations with IPW such as Cavity Milling and Rest Milling. If I remember correctly, verify simulation prefers a program which uses a blank to start out with. When you specify blank there are many options for what type of blank to use. I use bounding block quite a bit because all my work pieces typically start out square or rectangular and are slightly oversize. I have bounding block info set in my mill_contour and mill_planar template parts so when I initialize manufacturing in new parts, all my custom settings automatically populate for me. That all may be more than you need to know right now but at least you can get a feel for the basics and build on it. Feel free to post again when you have more questions.

NX9
Migrate to 10 when 10.2 is released.

OOTB the operations are set up to inherit the clearance defitintion. If you set the clearance plane in the MCS group, then you should not see this message with any newly created operation.

I suggest you go through the tutorials included in your installation - Menu --> Help --> Manufacturing Tutorials
