How do i get the icons of the .prt file to show as a NX icon.
One time a window opened and asked "what program i want to open this file with" and i must have hit something by accident.
any help would be nice.

Hold down Shift key while you right click on it. Then select "open With", choose "select another app", and make the setting to use this always.

i did that but how do i change all the files back to look like an NX file. They are still .prt files but show a different symbol.

This is controlled in the Windows Registry.

Ihe icon used will be referred to in either of the following keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\UGpartfile\DefaultIcon or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NXPartFile\DefaultIcon

Open Windows Registry Editor by using Start -> Run, type in regedit & press enter.

You can then browse to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\UGpartfile\DefaultIcon
or
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NXPartFile\DefaultIcon

Which one will depend on the version of NX you are using.

On the right side, the Default will be set to the full path to the NX icon file.
Edit so that it points to where you have NX installed.

Image below shows an example of what either key looks like in the registry.

NX4 to NX CR with almost every MR (18versions)

correcting a broken relation between .prt and NX is a little harder than expected.
I have used the Repair option in the Add/remove programs to correct this.
