I'm setting up a shell model for a large 3D printed structure using an orthotropic material that keeps a constant material orientation throughout the model. That is, the material orientation stays constant relative the global CS, with global Z representing the build direction of the print. Not all surfaces of the model align with the global CS, so material properties (as defined) are not necessarily in-plane (or perpendicular) with the 2D elements.
Question is, how can I apply the correct material orientation to a set of shells positioned at an arbitrary orientation? I think I effectively need to rotate the material properties to lie in orientation with the elements. Does that sound right, and if so can it be done directly in NX? Any better ways to go about it? Open to suggestions! The geometry of the part does not lend itself to a 3D model.
