my company has recently just upgraded a few of the computers to xp64 and we were using xp professional before hand with nx3 with out any problems however since upgrading windows the following error occurs whenever i start nx 3

graphics window has detected an error and is not able to initialize

general fault exception

is there any way to get nx3 to work on xp64?

Sounds like you need to upgrade (or perhaps downgrade) the graphics driver. There have been issues reported with NX running on 64bit and graphics drivers. Also are you running Vista or Windows XP? Note that NX 3 is not certified for Vista. You must upgrade to at least NX 5 to get proper Vista support. Also a call to GTAC wouldn't be out of the question as they have helped people before with these issues.

It actually happened to us on both NX-3 and NX-4 in one form or another and we had to install different graphics drivers. It was one issue that we were able to overcome among several that we had with drivers in 64Bit. Sorry I can't give an exact driver at this late stage, but somebody may be able to should you post the pertinent graphics card details.

thanks for the replies so far
the computers have
nvidia quadro fx 540 and
nvidia quadro fx350
i know that they are compatible as i have looked on the certification page but when i downloaded the driver from nvidia for the fx 540 it only works on xp 32 not on xp64 even though it states xp 64

does any one know if it is a settings problem on the graphs card because i changed the 3d settings to the preset nx settings but that did nothing

using the latest driver can help. We are using XP64 with nVidia Q FX950 to FX3500. NX2 and NX5 (32 and 64bit Version)
I´m using FX1400 with driver 6.14.11.6939 build on Feb 1 2008. Graphics is not a problem.

Quadro Release 178 WHQL
Version: 178.46
Release Date: November 11, 2008
Operating System: Windows XP 64-bit
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 49.4 MB

I should add that if you're not mixing projects and customers so that the only version you require is 32Bit which is what NX-3 and I think NX-4 also are intended to run on, then you would probably do just as well to install XP-32Bit.

Otherwise the question becomes how can one install for NX-5 or higher to run under 64Bit and NX-3/4 to run under 32Bit using the same graphics card at the same time?

well the problem is that the customer is using nx3 so we can't upgrade unless the customer upgrades. i have upgraded the drivers to the ug certified drivers and no luck i have upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers and no luck i have upgraded to the dell recomended graphics driver and no luck what can i do. this is stressing me out. i am still getting the same message

graphics window has detected an error and is not able to initialize

general fault exception

thanks for the sujestions so far any more would be appriaceated

7. Now go to start->programs->NX3.0->license options

8. Pick the license UGXXXX from left side and load it to right side using the arrow keys ">>" and say Ok

9. Now launch NX 3.0 and have a coffee :)

HariharanB,

Any luck getting the machine to support NX-5 at the same time?

And I thought that all the updates were cumulative so why run in 3.0.1.3 and then 3.0.2.3 one after the other? Theoretically one might as easily download the latest say 3.0.5.3 and run that in. I would willingly follow your advice granted that it works, and am not doubting you rather I just wished to put the query out there because my understanding was otherwise.

That you made no mention of Graphics Drivers is puzzling since for the most part they were reportedly the main problem.

Cheers

Hudson

thanks for your advice

well i got it to work using the latest update 3.0.5.3
i don't know why that worked since the error message did say something about graphics card.

i got rid of nx5 on the first machine i tried. now i have to try and install nx3 on a computer with nx5 already installed. i will see if i can get it to work.
