Hello

I am having a problem running my model that I developed in NX7.5 and running a FEA on Nastran. I cannot see the results in the model, due to the message that "Result File in Wrong Format".
My model runs, and the job finishes, with no error message, but when I look in more detail this is what I found.

USER WARNING MESSAGE 9162 (SELG)
PARAM,INREL,-1 OR -2 IS PRESENT BUT NO MASS IS DEFINED. THEREFORE THE INERTIA RELIEF LOADS WILL NOT BE COMPUTED AND THE SOLUTION WILL ONLY REFLECT THE APPLIED LOADS.

Hope you guys can help, thanks.

What type of analysis are you running? If this is a sol 129 or sol 701 analysis type, the results are in a SORT2 format and cannot be imported into NX Post.

Is there a fatal message in the f06 file?

I have just started to do some easy sheet metal forming analysis using the 701 solver myself and can't open the results.

Is it really supposed to be impossible to post process the results from the 701 solution in NX 7.5? The results file is in .op2 format as usual but can't be imported.

What program can be used to open the SORT2 format you're talking about?

Regards

So, the results are in op2 format and you are working in NX 7.5, correct? What solution type did you run? (look in the nastran input file for SOL xxxxxx)? If this is solution 701, the format is sort2 by default and you need to set the output requests to SORT1 for NX 7.5 post processing to work.

If this is not sol 701, then it shouldn't be this difficult, unless you solved with MSC Nastran or some unsupported version of a different solver other than NX Nastran.

In the *.f06 file, do you see any fatal or nogo messages?

Is the op2 file a valid op2 file? Is it more than 1K in size?

Again, this should not be this difficult. I do this everyday and rarely have an issue. But I am using NX Nastran 7.0 as the solver and run alot of linear static and nonlinear static analyses.

Ok, I found the SORT1 and SORT2 options in the Output parameters so I'll try change these from Default to SORT1.

I'm running NX 7.5 and solution 701 correct.

The OP2 file is 17mb while the nastran input deck is 1mb, so it really should be some results in there :)

I'll give the Default --> SORT1 a try and see what happens.

Since 701 is a transient analysis, like sol 129 and 601,129, the default it SORT2 format, but NX 7.5 post only supports SORT1 format. It's a minor technicality, but can be major if you did a long solve and need to post process.

I wish NX 7.5 would write the deck automatically with SORT1 format request.

Got the results now when changing to SORT1..

Really shouldn't be necessary to make it this difficult, but at least it works.

Thanks for your help.

One more thing sprung to my mind.

The Parallel = 7 switch does work fine in solution 601 where 7 of my 8 CPU threads is working.

However in the 701 solution only 1 thread is doing the calcs. How can this be enabled for the explicit solver?

For NX Nastran, there is only one setting I know of for multi threading, parallel=number of processors. So it's either on or off. Don't know about 701 and the docs say SMP supports all solution types.

I get the same error message when I try to open my results, would like to try out if changing SORT option works for me.

Only problem I don't know where I can find that option.
(relatively new user)

Can someone give me a hand?

Right Mouse Click on the Solution and choose Edit

Choose the Case Control Option

Edit the Modeling Object for Output Requests

You will need to set the SORT1 option for each output request type (ie Displacement etc)

I'm experiencing the same "Result File in wrong format" message. My solution ran successfully with no errors but I cannot open the results. I'm running a simple Structural Analysis Type and a SESTATIC 101 - Single Constraint Solution Type. I've tried manually setting the SORT1 option for each output request type but this did not fix my problem.

Can anyone help me find the problem?

Dear Cblinc,
Take a look to the *.F06 file nastran output file located in the directory of your model, there you will see the reason of the error.
Best regards,
Blas.
