If I need to use a sacrificial anode on an oil service, of which water is accumulated at the bottom I expect that the anode is going to be oil wetted anyhow. In such a condition, how to select the SACP? which of Zn, Al and Mg is having less oil wettability?

Select the anode material based on the water resistivity and the temperature. Don't worry too much about hydrocarbon coverage, the morphology of the anode corrosion at exposed locations will result in the hydrocarbon coated areas of the surface eventually sloughing off.

I saw in some of the handbooks related to ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, and CATHODIC PROTECTION, that Zinc anode is having high wetting characteristics compared to Alu and Mg. again there is a concern of thermite if we use Mg in hydrocarbons. But I could not find any authentic documents explaining this, even NACE handbooks.

So ai would like to know if anybody experienced any troubles after using Zn on a 'water on oil' service.

Thanks

We use aluminium anodes in both oil storage tanks and oil processing vessels and have no difficulty in getting them to dissolve - sometimes more quickly than we would like[neutral]

Sir Steve Jones,
That's a great response!
I too proposed one of the famous Aluminium anodes for the hydrocarbons just before 2 days! Thanks a lot for your expert solution.

TVP, Thanks for your reply. I too know his expertise and I always respect that!! , but for taking up the reason to a report I was looking for some authentic documents. Anyways, Thanks a lot!!
