Spiral gashing a cone/pineapple/tapered gear cutting hob 'old school' with a double angle side & face cutter.
Cone hobs are generally used for generating teeth on worm gears by feeding the hob tangentially through the pitch circle.

Thanks Ron. Haven't seen this kind of gear before.

As for "old school", looking at the background in the photo I see lots of what appear to be drive belts dropping down from the ceiling. This picture was either taken back in the very early part of the 20th century in some industrialized western country, or it could easily have been taken in the mid part of the 20th century in some location of the Soviet Union.

You're welcome Terry, glad you enjoy the post.
What you see that is powering the machinery in that workshop are 'Line Shafts' -
Looking at the milling machine; I think that it might be in Germany around WWII.

That's a sight to see. craftsmanship there for sure. It was amazing what they could do back then.

No computers there. Just brain, dials and gauges with somewhere, at the machinist location, a set of blueprints.

The craftsmanship of machine operators in the old days was definitely impressive. But I would not trade them for the capabilities we have with modern CNC machines, digital controls and CAM software, and digital design/analysis tools.
