Hi,
I need clarifications regards my queries,
1. As per Sec IX QW-423.1 if a welder is qualified in P no-1, he can able to weld for P No-1 to 15F, P No 34, P No-41-49.
as per the above statement if a welder is qualified in P No-1 he can able to weld for other P No groups within that list. whether we requires a separate WPS? Give your valuable suggestions.

You require a WPS for what you are or will be welding in production.
You do not need WPS's to cover the full range of the welders qualification.
I hope I have understood the question correctly.

The manufacturer is required to have WPSs that support production. Examples: if the manufacturer is welding carbon steel to carbon steel, a WPS for that work is required. If the manufacturer is welding carbon steel to austenitic stainless steel, a WPS is needed for that work.

The welder can only weld the range of materials that are supported by the necessary WPSs provided the range of P numbers are supported by the welder qualification. The welder is not required to requalify for each WPS if the range of P numbers is covered by the initial welder qualification.

Having said that, one must consider the welding process, weld type, thickness, position, product form, etc. when determining whether the welder needs to be requalified to preform the welding required for production and supported by an WPS.

Best regards - Al

Permission to use P No.1 materials under ASME IX in welder qualification was done to limit costs of qualification. Qualification on P1 materials using F4 electrodes would not permit welding P8 to P8 with A8 electrodes; however, qualification on P1 materials with A8 electrodes would enable the welder to weld P8 to P8 or P8 to P1 with A8 electrodes. Similarly qualification using P1 materials with F43 filler permits the welder to weld P4X materials with F4X materials - all of which require appropriately qualified WPSs. There are qualifiers of course because some materials and fillers metals may not well respond to this type of welder qualification
