Paperspace Viewports Rescaling Automatically

I have an extremely annoying problem when working in paperspace. On some drawings, I can zoom into a portion of a viewport with no problems. On others, when I zoom in to a portion of the viewport the contents are automatically rescaled on the screen view so that the viewport objects fill the screen, but are not affected in plot or plot preview. This makes it impossible to zoom in to add dimensions or annotations in paperspace. Locking the viewport scale seems to have no effect. Viewports and contents were created with SOLVIEW and SOLDRAW commands, in Autocad 2000 with service packs 1 and 2 loaded.

What system variable controls whether the viewports automatically rescale in paperspace? Also what system variable controls whether objects drawn in paperspace are "covered up" by viewports and redered invisible in paperspace even though they still plot correctly?

Thanks for your help.

Can't help you on visibility/plot question, but have heard of your other problem. Try this:
Enter modelspace for viewport of concern, set UCSFOLLOW to 0. A UCSFOLLOW of 1 may be causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

G'day butelja,
Sounds like you might have one of the shades commands set i.e. goroud or 3dhide.

Try Zooming to Extents in your viewports. This seems to "reset" autocad into working properly.
