Hi, I've been asked to label all the parts on my assembly with numbers. Is there anyway of getting solid edge to do this for me, or some other kind of description of the parts?

Cheers,

Ed

Ed,

in case 'number' means 'document number' then check this out

Tools --> Options --> Manage

at the bottom you will find 'Document name Formula'

Click Change
Click on Browse

- clear the field
- select 'Document Number' from the pull down
- Add
- OK

now all parts will show the document number instead
of the file name. Parts that do not have a doc number
assigned (field is empty) will show
Document Number(file name)

Hi,

oops! Yes, FWC you're right I've overlooked that. When labeling
means some sort of annotation by callouts then AFAIK it's not
possible in V18. With V19 the PMI functionality can be used
for this

Hi, I was just told to label the parts with numbers, I was invisaging some kind of assembly picture with little numbers on each part, as don said some kind of call outs.

Ta,

Ed,

When in an Assembly you can use PMI but as already said with
V19 only.

When this should be done in a Draft for an ISO/Exploded view
you can do it with the Callout function:

- Callout
-> click on the button 'Property Text'
-> activate 'From Graphic Connection'
or 'From Graphic Connection to Part'
choose the wanted item from the list
Select
OK
OK

now attach the callout to an item (i.e. edge) of the part
the value of the choosen item will be shown.

If you did a mistake by attaching to the wrong part or want
to attach to a different item:
- select the callout
- press ALT and LMB on the small black 'handle' that
is attached to an item of the part and drag it away

- release ALT and now attach it to a different part/item

Would the parts list and auto balloon functionality be a better option?

Parts list and balloons is pretty much the industry standard (ASME/BS) for proper Engineering drawings anyway.

If it's as some kind of illustrations then Dons suggestion with callouts is really useful.

Hi,

sure, a parts list would be my first choice too. I did not
mention it because I thought that some additional information
should be shown.
The ballons the PartsList attaches to the parts will show the part's
number by default but this can be changed to a property text
if so desired
