Passing of train - Aerodynamic effect on Platform 1

Hello,

I was recently involved in the design of a platform in New York City. While calculating loads, I simply used ASCE and New York State Guidelines. The weird part is that I was not able to find out any resources on the effect of the train on platform structure due to the sudden wind effect when it passes by the platform. Can someone please let me know any official article or code in which I can look this up.

I’ve never seen any code criteria exactly like that, it will depend on the exact train and its consist, train speed, adjacent track geometry, shape of the platform and structure, etc. See what AREMA, various high speed rail lines and large city transit authorities have to say about train ‘wind loads’ on signage, in and on tunnels, adjacent structures, etc. I know that the AAR and some car builders have done some work on aero dynamics around cars and trains to improve efficiency of pulling the train. AREMA will have done any study of civil structures adjacent the tracks, if any really exists. I do know that a high speed train passing through a tunnel can generate an incredible pressure ahead of it at the mouth of the tunnel and at mech. openings in the tunnel.
