Anyone got one?

How can kids and pets get injured with it?

Or is it just lacking safety screens from moving bits?

Is it this one ?

CPSC said:
"CPSC staff believes the Peloton Tread+ poses serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures, and death.
In light of multiple reports of children becoming entrapped, pinned, and pulled under the rear roller of the product, CPSC urges consumers with children at home to stop using the product immediately," a press release states.

I was just reading about it and saw the picture of it as you have posted. Looks no different to any other treadmill I have seen.

Just wondered why its any different to the others.

Those pricks! I designed the first system for them and they failed to pay me. The guy offered me stock instead. Then disappeared.

It was even presented on the cover of Popular Science.

I wonder if the feet's are adjustable?
Some seems to have a cover going over in under at the rear, but not all.
Some are very low ..
But there seems to be many that are the same as that one.

I can see what the issue is now hadn't seen that video.

Yep that's particularly silly design.

How can kids get injured on a treadmill?

I see you've never been exposed to one as a child. Treadmills are a highly efficiency means to injure children. Full speed on the dial and then step on to the 'mill always results in a face plant and ejection. It sometimes results in laughter, sometimes tears.

Easy solution, put a key switch on the things.

I would have also thought a tilt cut and the feet leaving the floor would also be sensible.

You could also combine floor contact with load sensor so it won't turn with less than 50 kg on it.

Over 110kg it could play a certain song by unstoppable sex machine

Assuming one actually removes the key, but then it would get lost somewhere in the couch or somesuch; or worse, some other kid would swallow the key

As they say, "It's difficult to make things foolproof. Fools can be so ingenious." When I was in grade school, heat was provided by cast iron radiators and they were 'super' hot. You could seriously burn yourself if you put your hand on it... not may kids tried... same with the hockey shacks... they had a log heated barrel that was also super hot... not many kids put their hands on it... near it to warm up, but not touch. We seem to have educated intelligence out of the upcoming generations.

If you have a device that can harm, you have to be careful and pay attention, too.

This thing with burning maybe isn't the best example, it's in our genes, something the body have adapted to, since we started using fire, you burn yourself a couple of times and then the body starts going on autopilot, muscle memory.

Thread mills hmm, I would was say most people wouldn't see the risks if they where not pointed out for them in a proper way.
A child would not.
Of course in the best of worlds everybody would take the key out and never use it if you where not in a looked, empty room, since you don't have eyes in the back and can't see if someone/thing comes crawling up from behind.

At work we have many different typs of conveyers, same risks, but we know what to look for when we risk asses them.
If all parent's where super engineers it would not be a problem.

OK... agreed... something that appears to be harmless...

By the way, the kid DIED from injuries received, just not immediately on video.

I know a kid had died and that there had been more then one accident, just didn't know it was that kid. :-(

By EU standards it would not have been ok.
1.You should construct the risk away.
if that isn't possible
2. You should safeguard it away.
if that isn't possible
3. You can write a warning/instruction.

And if there is risk for death.
Dubble security and dubble monitoring no single fault may lead to a dangerous situation.

That particular risk would have been solved with a cover from the top of backside and all the way under the belt.

Both 'mills that I have had had covers on the rear roller so that it could not be contacted from behind.
I guess that they wanted theirs to look cooler.

As a controls engineer I completely agree that idiot proofing is impossible. But a simple flap that actuates a limit switch or just just covering track on the underside could go a long way.

I suspect its marketing department won the day in the post design meetings. Be interesting to know if they originally did have the safe guards.
