what specifically are you worried about (in your design) ?

MCA...

As I recall the print run for Permanent Fasteners for Light-Weight Structures - K Hoffer was extremely small. I don't think I've ever seen any copies for sale.

That small book is incredibly unique... and is a '10-carat diamond' for understanding installed-fasteners.

I have the book in *.pdf... but it is ONLY for use within my team. Soooorrry.

@rb1957 - we use solid rivets, hilite and lockbolts fasteners in airbus programs.. I work for company which is serviced based company.. we used get instruction from airbus to use only particular fasteners as it was used previous programs.. I'm curious to know about fasteners usage and its limitations thats why i asked about the book.. nothing specific sir..

@WKtaylor - its ok.. no problem sir..

It's not a good sign when Abe's Books has an entry that is basically "good luck finding this." Even Amazon India which doesn't need to respect US copyright doesn't have it for sale.

Come back in 50 years or so when the copyright expires. Thanks Representative Sonny Bono. And Disney.

I think you'll find the same info in many other fastener books, this ain't rocket science. Also, each company will have their own preferences regarding fastener selection formed by their individual experience and their specific market. For example we rarely use DD or KE rivets, but will go from AD rivets to Hi-Lites.

Just going by memory, I believe NASA has a fastener design manual (and by that you are meant to read "fastener installation design manual" although in it there are comments about the design of fasteners, too.
See if you can find that on the NTRS server.

In this instance, I've found the best thing to do is take advantage of our wonderful library system.

Here's the worldcat entry for the book you're looking for:

You'll find there are several university libraries which have print copies of this book. From your info you appear to be in the US.

Many university libraries allow the public to check books out directly if you pay a small fee. That won't apply to the stacks (journal articles), those can never be checked out. But that's not an issue in this case. Usually there are other benefits such as free scans of journal articles, etc. So I highly recommend it.

But if you prefer, you could also just work with your local public university interlibrary loan department. This has worked for me many times, most recently, getting from fracture mechanics books by George Sih.

If you are just looking for an excerpt or the content is small enough, many libraries will fill scan requests for a few bucks. But if you want to look at the whole book, the best thing would be to have ILL scrounge it up for you.

In fact, I might do this myself, this seems like an interesting book I don't have.

Libraries are a public service, remember to make them work for you!

There a copy not far from me too!

Thanks LiftDivergence.

You are all lucky that these library copies actually exist. I checked... my company's copy has disappeared...

My company "wrote off" its entire engineering library by waiting until after work and emptying it all into dumpsters. Can't have a taxable value if it is trash. All that was kept was standards - ASTM and MIL.

if "people" (if you call such barbarians that) were smart they'd've said, we'll be consigning all these worthless books to the trash tomorrow (or even put them in those large wheelie trash bins) and give guys time to retrieve (save) them. Ours are all electronic (easy to copy ... if you wanted to ...)

The "people" were the same ones that eliminated all the shop standards as it was a way to meet ISO 9001. Can't fail to meet a requirement that does not exist.

3DD...

When my company moved operations to another location... here... people retired and/or were laid-off and moved-on... and all-too-few-of-us were given job offers. NO call went-out to capture data stored in desks or shelves or boxes. A LOT of unique reports/notes/books/etc simply went into 'round-files'... then dumpsters. A couple of months after the moves and layoffs started... the call FINALLY went-out for 'company stuff' to be placed in storage room X... but the damage was already done. Sad. A few of us 'pilfered' what we could find laying around that we knew had value... but not enough of the 'best-stuff' was saved.

Wil, that brings back memories. I did you one better, and went to talk to some of the old timers, who freely gave me stacks of reports/books/etc. I got really smart, really quick (because I'm a good reader). Then I got laid off. But I still have a few pieces of info. lying around, just not the book the OP is looking for.
