pile capacity

Just wondering if we call the piles/ pile caps are 20 tons piles, we can put total service load 40kips on the pile, or can only be 20kips (factor of 2)?

Your geotechnical engineer will tell you the allowable capacity of the pile.

When a pile capacity is given on a drawing, it usually refers to a service (unfactored)load. So if it says 40k on the drawing, the pile can handle up to a 40k load.
