So I finally found more information on pile lateral and shear stresses if anyone is interested (see thread255-244371 for original question)....for use as surcharges on shoring.

"Stresses in Foundation Soils due to vertical Subsurface Loading" by Geddes 1966.

The paper has great solutions for piles with point loads, piles with uniform skin friction, piles with linearly varying skin friction, and a method of superposition to obtain other distributions. It also has a comparison and explanation of the drawbacks of using Boussinesq point loading.

Enjoy!
