I am currently working on re-designing a pipe run for a hydro test tank. Knowns: max working pressure; capacity of tank; pipe material.

I am trying to determine the size of pipe required. I reviewed MIL-T-16420 and have narrowed down my selection of pipe based on the classification of the pipe (70-30, No. 715, class 1650). My question is when it comes to selecting the pipe diameter, is it simply my choice which pipe size to use? I feel like O am missing something and I want to check with some outside sources to get some feedback. Thank you in advacne for your help.

The choice is yours. The selection narrows when you know the flow rate. In this case, I'm guessing that's governed by how long you can wait to drain/fill the tank and/or the test article.

From flow, you get the size by selecting a limiting velocity.

Pick a velocity and state it publicly here to start an argument.

hello,

it is not always a choice.
if you are going to enter a pump you are limited by velocity as our friend mentioned in his response.

Thank you for all the input. Since the current pipe arrangement does not impose a problem in regards to the flow. We will be using the same size pipe for the new arrangement.
