Dear Experts,
One of my client requirement is given below,
5" Pipe spools internal surface to be Hot Dip Galvanized.

Purpose :- Sea water line passing throw diesel tank.

Kindly let me know is there any coating which i can apply outer surface of pipe to prevent zinc bonding.

CLingfilm?

Ask the coaters.

But this sounds like a very bad idea to me. A seawater line passing through a diesel tank??

Why not consider plastic lining or insert?

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Shumunga ...

I agree with LI .... a very bad idea ...

But, I have always strongly supported random drug testing for all clients..

A well organized and properly implemented program help will prevent the strange, insane and impossible requirements commonly found in modern specifications.

My opinion only ....

Heheehehehe...

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

This will only be used for a few weeks correct?
That is all the longer it might last. Of course it could last for years depending on how the water is treated.
But once the Zn is gone it is off to the races for the corrosion.

Thank you for your reply...
This is not a new process... It's a common process in Shipbuilding...
Most of the Naval ships / commercial ships are following this method.
As per class, Plastic pipe routing is not acceptable.
I already told this is our client requirement..we can't change the rule...

If am a designer I can select for conduit pipe routing (fully galvanised pipe will passing through the pickling and passivation coating completed pipe).

Thank you

I have seen some Japanis, south Korea and US constructed Offshore Fast patrol vessels..
They are using inner galvanised pipes in diesel tanks ..
@MJCronin... Your opinion is not bad..
Once you got a time then try to understand client requirement instead of blaming client...
Refer ABS,LYODS,DNV rules ..
My opinion only...

With modern ultra-low sulfur fuels the issue of zinc bonding may no longer be relevant.

Whatever you do, make sure seamless pipe is used.

Ed, to clarify the application, these are often pipes that see only occasional flow and are otherwise stagnant for most of their lifetimes. They do often last 10-15 years without too much trouble provided seamless sch80 pipe is used.
