Hi ,

I have a 3/4 pipe closed at one end.. I need to connect a isolation valve for venting purpose. What are the best connection type to connect the pipe and the valve without having to weld (just cut the closed end and connect)? What fittings are required ?

Can you refer to any standard that talks about this subject?

Your comments please.

Thank you

The best connection to use on the pipe is the same type as the valve has.

Einstein gave the same test to students every year. When asked why he would do something like that, "Because the answers had changed."

Pressure rating and contents makes a big difference, but look up swagelok maybe?

low pressure water just go down to your local plumbing store and buy some compression fittings

If the fluid you are dealing with, is not dangerous and it is low pressure, just cut the end of pipe make a scrwed end and aply a scrwed valve.

These are the most direct option. Couplings with biting rings are self-restraining and don't require additional pipe support.

Straub Grip-L coupling.

These have elastomer wetted surfaces so you must specify the correct material for the fluid. Most have EPDM liners which is not suitable for hydrocarbon service. Other liners can be ordered.

A pair of these couplings can allow you to remove a section without additional disassembly.

Our OP has started 63 threads and managed to post a response a mighty 14 times, so I wouldn't expect too much of a response....

What TugboatEng says is also a possible solution if fluid allows and is low pressure connection.

Hi guys

Thank you for your replies

Application is nitrogen with pressure up to 200 barg

200bar? That's an important detail. That narrows you down to two options. You can thread it for NPT. NPT has a poor fatigue life but if the pressure is mostly static, NPT works ok.

Or, there is a high pressure rated press-on fitting available. The installation tools are tremendously expensive, maybe rental is an option?

200 barg !!! You have to rewind the talk thread.
