Piston vs Gear Pump 5

We have in operation one axial piston pump in an extruder press. Every 6 to 8 month we have to replace the pump because of internal damages. The pump is correctly selected for pressure, flow, etc. We are planning to change the pump and install one from another brand (better one) and we are thinking about changing the type of pump too. Maybe a gear pump

So my questions are: When it is necessary to use a piston pump and when a gear pump? Is a gear pump more resistant to sudden pressure changes?

Apologies for joining this thread somewhat late in the day,( would have expected to to it on the fluid power forum) I agree with the advice gven by all subscribers to this thread.I would also suggest if you are using any galvanised piping in your sytem to replace it with hose or the appropriate non coated steel pipe , I may be wrong but from your photograph it seems as if you are usung some galvanished piping in your system which can be a source of continual contamination .

Thanks

The original easy, fast, and cheap approach is why you are now addressing the problem. Easy, fast, and cheap is not always cheap.
Good luck with a proper system.
