Pivot joint design

I am designing a joint that involves a mounting bracket that will attach to a gas spring. I am using a clevis and tang system to create the joint however I am uncertain which side of the joint should involve the clevis or the tang. Would it be more sufficient to include the tang onto the bracket or onro the gas spring? And vice versa for the clevis?

It would probably be simpler making the braket the clevis and putting the tang on the spring. Just depends on what's simpler to design and fabricate.

use different joints at the two ends, so they can install it only one way (probably doesn't matter, but ...)

I wasn't sure if there were advantages or disadvantages designing it either way. So far it is much simpler to have the clevis on the gas spring due to the attachments I only can find for it
