I already have a broad based engineering qualification and several years experience of product design and development. I would like to study towards a qualification focused on plastics, design processing etc. Could anyone in the UK point me towards a part time or distance learning course they regard as worth the effort.

There are a few Ian, I'd advise you to subsribe to a publication called the Plastics and Rubber Weekly (PRW) which comes out every thursday and would have the biggest circ in the UK and Ireland. It will have all the info you need on courses, distance learning or otherwise. There are agencies like Rapra and Pera which are involved in training etc as are some of the academic institutions like London Metropolitan University or Loughborough Uni. If you have any other queries...let me know.

Also recommend that you get in touch with The Institute of Materials in London at 1782 221722 (Membership Department). Courses are available at the Universities of Sheffield, Nottingham, and Surrey, as well as at the London Metropolitan Polmer Centre (formerly the University of North London) UMIST could also help, as could Loughborough University. There are others, but this should be a good start. Of course, you might also consider some of the Universities here in Canada whoich offer what you call "distance learning courses".

Good luck,
