Please answer my question

I am a mechanical engineer with 9 years experience in HVAC system. I live now in Saudi Arabia where I currently work.
If I moved to USA, what can I do to participate my engineering skills there?

Other than enrolling myself in Master Degree program, I heard about Fundamental engineer exam and Professional engineer exam, has any one taken these exams or have any information about them?

The above postings presume that you are after a Professional Engineer License. Many states, like California, have industrial exemptions where engineers that design things for their corporate employers do not require licensure, since they are not technically offering their engineering services to the public.

@Tony, If you intend to practice engineering study local code first.I was in the same boat 10 years ago, Tried my luck in California, They have the Title 24,they use NFPA,NEC with variations to suit local conditions. I am not familiar with those variations so I went into another direction, construction management and finally went back to being design engineer.

@dynamo78 Thanks body for the info, I appreciate your reply. The local code is, as far as I know, ASHRAE Books when it comes to HVAC-R systems along with The National Plumbing Code and NFPA. However, I have been dealing with these codes for almost 8 years so I'm familiar with them. My question is: Do I have to be tested with these codes?
Also, what do you mean by construction management? MBA?

@Tony, I am sorry but when you said moving to the US means you are emigrating and work or just go for advance studies or both?FE/EIT is the test you take when you are at least Jr in college(US) or a graduate of engg in any foreign country then take the PE after so many years depending on what state you decide to go.I did work as a PM/SUPT.On a side note, I did worked in the KSA too in the eastern province, from Dammam to Al hassa to kafji to hafar batin.If I may ask where are you staioned now?

Ok, Bro if you dont mind me asking this, Are you familiar with the FTR Int'l there, I got interviewed by them for an MEP PM at an air port in Jeddah but they are nor in the QA/T & C stage.

what is your position now in Saudi, are you working in an engineering firm or in a company and you are responsible for their HVAC system?
first it is not a good idea to leave Judahh and come to state to work in gas station at the beginning ( it might take longer too)
I belief the best option for you is to start your master in USA then through the university network you will find your way to get you license, with this option you save your time and have more chance to find a job either with an engineering firms or teaching or even back to Saudi to teach there.

@317069, thx for the reply, first o'all I work in a contracting company as HVAC engineer
second o'all, the Master idea is good, but costs a lot especially if one is going to study in good school. the PE test is much easier in principle, you only have to study for the test and hit a good score to get your license, as far as I know about this program. correct me if I'm wrong

Tonyking, if you are not a US citizen you are better off to stay in Saudi Arabia. There is a ton of PE's in this country that are qualified to do HVAC work. On the other hand in your part of the country, you would be more usefull.

Tony, Are u emigrating to the US as a resident or go there as a student or to work then work for your residency? I think you better consult the US Consular office there in Jedddah about your plans. By the way I still have some friends in AL Saad contracting.All the Best Bro!!
