Dear sirs,

I came through designs where we put reactors in the powerhouse generators to limit current. Can we use lower rating breaker using it?

Please reply.

The purpose of reactor is to reduce fault contribution at the busbar level.
There will not be any reduction in the breaker rated current value.
The reactor helps in avoiding replacement of existing breakers with those having higher fault rating.
For the respective generator circuit breaker, I don't think you would like to save money by ordering a lower fault rated breaker (the saving may not be much I suppose).

but how generator reactance causes decrease in short circuit rating?
