precast architecural pieces supported on steel angles

Got some small precast pieces (lintels, 'cast stone' that are integrated with the brick in a building. Some are brick above and below, so just supported by masonry mortar, like any other brick. Some of the bigger pieces are on steel angles. Would you give any value to the mortar between the precast and steel, or would you provide a mechanical anchor?

Would the precast have something like brick ties back to backup near the angle? If not, I'd probably go mech connection.

Some would have brick above and ties about 2feet away. Im thinking a small rod or something welded to the angle and then grouted into the precast.

I agree w/ KootK, but I would also typically defer to your precast manufacturer for the actual design of the attachment. I typically provide guidance on the type of connection that is acceptable if there are aesthetic restrictions from the architect or other considerations (structural, deflections, etc.). A quick call to a precast manufacturer will usually be very productive.

Im doing the design, small pieces, so was going to go with just grout on a lintel for the connection. Brick above and normal brick ties for the connection.
