We are updating machines to windows 7 and adding more ram to help with the memory errors. Previously our windows xp machines ran 32 bit NX and all pointed to a custom ugii_env file on the network drive. This file didn't work with the new installs of nx 64 bit. The default ugii_env file was used but things like reuse library and symbols weren't showing up. We've tweaked the file using the default and settings from the 32 bit custom file and have gotten these items back. I noticed when the ugii_env file is placed on the network drive the speed of nx updating views and opening files is slower. We have now moved this file locally on each pc to the local drive and the speed has gotten better. Is there any issues with the placement and which is preferred. For now local seems much better. Placed on the network made easy updates for IT.

The 'ugii_env.dat' file should only have been read once upon start-up of NX and while it is true that reading it across what might be a slow network could contribute some additional lag-time during start-up it shouldn't make any difference once your NX session is up and running.

When you said that you "...have now moved this file locally on each pc to the local drive and the speed has gotten better" did this also include moving the files located in the U:\CONFIGURATION folder, or at least change the folder pointed to by the UGII_CONFIG_DIR= variable?

Nothing else was moved just the ugii_env.dat file was moved to C:\Program Files\UGS\NX 6.0\UGII.

I don't understand why things are quicker. Should we copy the Configuration folder locally? Would this help our speed out?

Hi John, I tried to move that folder also to the local drive and no change. Funny thing is when the same view update was measured it takes the same time now under any of these setups. Including with the ugii_env.dat file on the network. So the speed dip seems to be intermittent any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe a bad network switch or another hardware item?

When I said to move the configuration folder to the local machine I od course also meant that you have to edit the variable in the ugii_env.dat file so that it points to that local folder and not the one that's still out on the net.

Yes I also changed the environment variable to point to the file on c: drive. All the same.
