I am considering how to caculate the pressure drop for fouled exchangers. It is easy to caculate that of a clean one by using simulation software such as TASC. For a fouled one, If I know the thickness and roughness of the foul, it also can be caculated. Do anyone have some experience on how to decide the these values(thickness and roughness of foul).

Any reply would be highly appreciated!

Once I was with the calc of dP in h-exchanger (I think you calculate tube side as well as I did) and we knew that this can be fouled after a while. We've just doubled the calculated dP for the clean x-changer to predict fouling effect. However the regular maintanance - twice a year is included the cleaning of tubes - as it was significantly small and had a simple 1-1 design!
