Experts your recommendation is requested in selecting the test medium for one of our hot tapping job. As per the procedure after the welding of hot tap fittings (Split Tee) and installation of hot tap valve , we need to test the weld integrity of hot tap fitting by hydro testing the connection. The existing line is high temperature and high pressure steam line. Temp is 200°C. Hence water cannot be utilized since the run pipe is with elevated temperature. Experts please recommend a testing medium for the above the mentioned case considering the risk factor.

Thermal heating oil?

Just remember you can't test to anything more that 10% more than the actual pressure in the main header at the time of testing without risk of collapse of the header pipe.

DipuDivakaran,

Did you look up API RP 2201? It talks about hot tapping.
Obviously, if you intent to hydro-test the split tee joints on the run pipe, you can't. You can do only some NDT. And remember, the longitudinal weld joint will be more critical because of the hoop stress.

Deepu,

Whilst "thanks" is better than no response, it doesn't tell us anything. Part of the "contract" on this site is that you provide meaningful feedback on the free advice offered so we get some level of knowing if you've understood the answers or not and what you're now planning to do. Please.

LittleInch - wait, I though this was a place to get free engineering and design consulting for companies that have laid off all their senior engineers.

"Hey, Bob, you know, I've been doing the numbers and we could probably get rid of those expensive, cranky, pedantic tech people by buying this new cool-sounding software. The rep said it would do everything we need PLUS spit out endless complex reports that we can point to if ever it looks like we're not busy enough."

"If we run into problems we can just ask the internet because crowdsourcing and wisdom of crowds and if we're really lucky, those experienced, now-bored unemployed nerds we laid off will find a solution for us!"

"What could possibly go wrong, it's a win-win!"
