Hello to everyone,

As in the thread below, I do not succeed in exporting a solid object in a step file, namely when I try to import it in another program the exported .stp file contains only surfaces.

Is there anything I have to check before performing the export operation?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,
have you checked the options when exporting an stp?
The window that opens when you "save as" has a little button on the lower left corner.

are you sure its a Solid body in NX and not a Sheet body?

How are you exporting it? File-> Save as or File->Export

so are you saying that the solid bodies are being changed to sheet bodies (surfaces), or are you saying that there are other things (other than the surfaces) that did not translate properly?

Thank you all!

The problem is that I have an assembly and I need to export each part as solid object (as it is). I am sure that all parts within the assembly are solid.

Every parts have been saved "alone" (which means they have been extrapolated from the assembly) with the command File->Export->Part and then, for each one I have executed the export operation with the command File->Export. The strange thing is that some parts are exported as solids and other ones as surfaces.

Any suggestion?

Did you try to change the export pull down in selected objects, this will normally export everything as a solid.

Best regards,

Michaël.

That other software looks like Catia V5?

You will probably have to explode the "closed shell" and patch some surfaces. Then join it back together No translator is perfect.

Check your export log from NX, it'll tell you if it left NX as a solid or surfaces. The problem may lie in the import software settings.

If it left NX as a solid, the problem is with the other software.
You can try to adjust the tolerances in the Catia step translator.

What happens when you export the STep file out in NX and reimport into NX? Is it still a solid? If not you can see surfaces that could be possibly causing your issues. Try fixing these surface on this imported STEP file and export it back out again.

ok, I solved the problem. The file was correctly exported by NX9 and the problem was, as suggested by robnewcomb, in the import settings for step file. Therefore I tried parasolid and it seems to be the right way.

Thank you all!
