Hi All,

I have used StaadPro to do steel analysis. But i have some problem in assign the effective length of column. I have assign KY=2.0 and KZ=2.0 but when i check the design output the buckling calculation effective length still the same ==> K=1 . However the effective length under section property has change to (column length x 2.0).
1. Is there any mistake i use or assign in the staadPro ?
2. Why effective length under buckling cal. still unchanged.
3. I also have doubt should i assign Ly , Lz or KY, KZ

I attached the model and one of the calculation page for column which highlighted the effective length i have mention for your ease understanding.
Thanks in advance if anybody can assist me for this matter.
Your reply is much appreciated.

Under what code? Note that beam-column design equations include checks for K equal to the design value, as well as K=1. You've also not assigned Kx, which is probably controlling

Agree that you need to assign Kx. X is the longitudinal axis.

All I know is P/A and Mc/I
